Psychological SymbolismWith a degree in psychology, I am interested in human motivations. Psychological symbolism is close to surrealism but the psychological focus differentiates it to a sufficient degree to categorise it as a unique genre. The style integrates symbols and colours to represent repressed sexual desires. Admittedly, surrealism is meant to have a psychological focus; however, from what I’ve seen, few surrealist artists have any education in psychology or a desire to read psychological theories. Furthermore, their imagery often resembles some kind of drug-induced warping that has no real psychological consideration behind it.
